ABOUT

If you wanted to change something in the creative industry, what would it be? Have you ever thought about ways you can impact the industry? During these times, take a moment to challenge your self to learn more about ways to support BIPOC in the arts. There are many ways to do this: You can promote their work or even share their stories.

WHAT DOES BEING A DESIGNER MEAN TO YOU?

The purpose of the question: What does it mean to be a designer? Does not necessarily have to do with design as an artistic form, rather it can also suggest re-designing for good, creating impact, and becoming involved in the overall design community.

Personally, I challenged myself to create a series of pamphlets that can be given to high school students that have an interest in anything artistic such as film, illustration and design. While mind mapping, I thought about my exposure to the arts, my family and my mistakes. As a solution, I set up the branding for an organization that aims at establishing the importance of creativity and diversity from high school to college. With the goal to be original and to be ambitious in mind, I lead with a package of items that students can receive during or after they have gone to a workshop.

Initial Progress

Sketch

It all starts with a sketch, right? My initial thought process started at “how will someone interact with this, or will anyone interact with this” from there i gathered what materials of impact I will create. Thus sketched out a bag in which will display certain icons/illustrations that relate to an artistic career. In addition, it will include a box or a hardshell envelop of items which include: Notebook, Stickers, Badge, and a pamphlet.

Research

The main objective is to help low-income, middle class students interested in the arts be encouraged to follow it - or any pathway that might be “limited” or “hard-to-reach”. This eventually result in the increase of diversity in highly dense creative areas, such as design. In which according to the AIGA “census” the majority of the industry is 75%* White.

Implement

I started this with pamphlets, since they hold the bulk of the information needed to understand the impact someone can create by following their dreams. These are focused on diversity, change and impact as factors that we can all contribute to and to encourage participation.
